Kareena Kapoor is really angry because people only remember her for Geet and Poo roles

Actor Kareena Kapoor has taken on a range of parts over her career but people still think of Jab We Met and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham as her most memorable performances. And she feels very ‘angry’ about it. During a press conference at the trailer premiere of Jaane Jaan on Tuesday in Mumbai, Kareena opened up about all the many characters she has done in her movie career.

Speaking about her filmography, she remarked, as reported by PTI, “As an actress, you want to try and do something new every time. For me, it is challenging since I’ve been renowned for playing Poo and Geet… This thing has been fixed in people’s minds. So, there has been a deliberate effort because now I want to pursue various things…

‘Trying to do various things’

“They don’t think about the films that I’ve done in the past such as Dev, Chameli, and others. But I’m going to keep trying to do other things. I know that they will keep going back to Poo and Geet,” Kareena said.

Citing the example of Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2006 critically-acclaimed film, Omkara, the 42-year-old actress said she had portrayed difficult parts in the past.

“I’ve done quite a few difficult parts but you all remember just Poo and Geet. I feel quite irritated about it. Like, Omkara was equally intense,” she recalled about starring in Bhardwaj’s acclaimed adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy Othello.

Kareena is scheduled to make her OTT debut with Jaane Jaan, director Sujoy Ghosh’s Hindi language translation of acclaimed Japanese book Devotion of Suspect X.

‘More worried now’

Also commenting about making her OTT debut she added, “I am more apprehensive than I did 20 years ago for the first time. Watching the commercial so intently on TV screens, people would be watching me so carefully on their phones. We have all worked really hard. Every actor says that but Sujoy has crafted a terrific film. We have been trying to work together for over a decade,” she said.

Jaane Jaan also stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma, whom Kareena regarded as “natural actors”. “I wanted to work with extremely excellent performers, someone I can contribute freshness with and learn from… I can’t thank them enough. Like sometime in the midst of the picture, I would glance at them and forget my lines. I have never done it, they are so natural. It was meant to be,” she added.

Jaane Jaan will launch on Netflix on Kareena’s birthday (September 21). The movie is produced by 12th Street Entertainment, Northern Lights Films in conjunction with Kross Pictures and Balaji Motion Pictures.
