What Ayushmann said

In a Pinkvilla interview, Ayushmann shared his perspective on the recent successes of films like “Gadar 2,” “OMG 2,” and “Pathaan.” He stated, “It represents a learning curve for the entire industry, and viewers have also experienced a significant transformation. The sense of communal movie-watching has made a strong comeback. There’s an eagerness to step out of one’s home and enjoy films on the big screen, reminiscent of watching a cricket match on TV versus being in the stadium. I believe this is the kind of distinction we are witnessing. When it comes to commercial films, I strongly advocate going to theaters.”

On people coming to theatres

He added, “As a child, I have always cherished the experience of watching films on the big screen. I’m delighted to see this trend returning, with people heading back to cinemas. Even mid-budget and small-budget films are finding success, which aligns with my own films—focused on compelling content. That’s indeed a significant relief.”

Big numbers at the box office

Bollywood has been enjoying a remarkable streak, with numerous films achieving substantial box office numbers. Leading the pack is Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2,” which recently entered the ₹500 crore club at the domestic box office during its third week of release. “Gadar 2” also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in prominent roles. Additionally, Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2” is steadily approaching the ₹150 crore mark.

Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana’s “Dream Girl 2,” released on August 25, opened strongly at the box office and is edging closer to the ₹90 crore mark. The highest-grossing film at the box office was Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” released on January 25, which amassed ₹1050.3 crore worldwide. With “Jawan” scheduled for release next week, it will be intriguing to observe the trajectory of box office numbers.
